Week 7: The countdown is on

Hi all, thanks for tuning in to another devlog. This past week I made the exciting decision to try and get my first demo out this month so I can start gathering feedback on the systems as and when I implement them. This first build, coined the combat demo, will focus mainly on the initial combat system, allowing players to test the reaper class, the first skills up to level 5 and the basic enemy AI.

To make my internal build more playable though, I was missing some essential components, mainly a start and pause screen so these are what I spent the week working on. The start screen, as shown below, will allow players to click through to the game, quit to the desktop, view the credits or access the game settings and options (this will be implemented at a later stage though so the button does nothing currently).

Then for pause screen, which displays when pressing the Esc key, users can quit to the start screen or desktop, resume the game, access the game settings or save their game - the latter two will be implemented at a later time though since they aren't required for this first demo.

Following this, to carry on getting the demo ready for release, I need to implement a loading screen which displays when transitioning between the start screen and the map, before then padding out the map with enemies to test combat on, so it should be another busy week!

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for Sunday where I should have another update on the demo!
